poplife > revolver
i went to revolver last night. rsvp'd for guestlist, apparently my rsvp got lost in translation. i think rsvp was supposed to get me free entry and open bar till midnight. i got denied by the douche working the door, had to pay 15$ to get in (hey guy, thanks for "reducing my admission" - that was big of you). got no free drinks, although i did get instant recognition from thursday night's bartender and got really strong drinks as a result. so that plan worked.

anyway - music: lame. crowd: lame. general atmosphere: lame.
i left after like 2 hours, so i got home around 2:30 or 3.

i slept in until 1pm today, woke up, dorked around for a couple of hours, and had an awesome late lunch/early dinner at this mediterranean restaurant across the street. soooo good.

bought some stuff at the grocery store and came back to chill at the hotel. i headed out for jamie lidell at poplife around 10:30. jamie lidell's album never gave me the chills it apparently gave everyone else, but his live show does indeed rule. it's about 1/3 soul/r&b type stuff with him singing, and about 2/3 funky ass techno with idm leanings. it's awesome. anyway, during his last song, it suddenly started pouring. mind you, his show was outside, on the patio. as soon as it started, 4 or 5 dudes close to the stage apparently pulled large tarps out of their asses and immediately jumped up to create a makeshift tent while jamie went on for another 5 or 6 minutes, finishing his show. i walked inside, thinking about how that's exactly the sort of thing an xlr8r writer would go on about, and just as i went in the door.... losing my edge gets a spin.

I WAS THERE.

anyway, i went and lost myself in the crowd for the next 2.5-3 hours, and it was well worth it.

lesson learned this weekend: fuck revolver (unless it's an Event - with a capital E), go to poplife.
